When The Kings Come Marching In by Richard J. Mouw

Posted by Hello
I started reading this book this morning. It has sat on my self for years. I bought it when I was in seminary and Douglas Groothius recommended it in a class discussion concerning Christ and culture and our understanding of heaven. So far it's a great read. Here's a quote that stuck with me today:
God's Word is a unity--although the unity is often more like that of a symphony than of a geometry textbook.

Did Groothius mention it in a positive light or a negative one?

I met a guy at the EC this week that said, "Groothius messed me up for a couple of years." I laughed. I haven't had him yet, but I think I'll be able to "objectively" call Doug on his crap.

I will choose not to fight that battle at this point in life. I just need to get through the class because it's required.

Hey Jason-

Groothius was positive about the book. In fact he had us read another book by Mouw called "Uncommon Decency" which is one of the best books I have read which calls Christians to treat everyone with respect and love.

The context Groothius discussed the book in concerned beauty. He argued from this book that perhaps those things which are truly beautiful and human-made will be in heaven regardless of the individual's relationship to Christ.

Groothius is a huge fan of jazz, so he argued that John Coltran's work may be in heaven giving glory to God simply because it is beautiful and excellent.

Groothius is a modern and he is brilliant. I enjoyed his classes and learned a lot from him though I disagree with him at several points.

What do you mean by "objectively" call him on his crap?
